Description:

HENRY W. HOLLAND
(1704-1782) New York politician and commissary. A.L.S., "H W Holland", 1p., 12mo., New York, Dec. 1, 1746, to mark receipt of payment from an associate named Bergen. In part: "...I promise to pay Hary Holland on order the sum of forty-four pounds shillings current money of New York on or before the forth [sic] Day of November next for Value recd this 10th of July 1746...". Holland has included a note above his signature: "Recd December 1 1746 the above sum of forty four pounds". This document is likely payment for a New York frontier property, the entirety of which Holland administered as Sheriff of Albany, and was issued only a short time before his replacement for displeasing Albany leaders in September 1746. Very good, moderate folds with slight tears and foxing, none affecting signature.
