A.L.S., 3pp. 8vo., Edinburgh, June 11, 1792, to JAMES CHALMERS (1730-1806) a Loyalist officer and pamphleteer in the American Revolution. In part: ‘…You may have seen in the papers the account's of the Riots to have not turned out so serious as was at one time imagined…where the mob appeared to have no object. They are now I hope publicly over…' This was likely in reference to the Dundas Riots, a series of riots that took place in Edinburgh, Scotland in June 1792. The riots were a response to soldiers celebrating the King's birthday by firing pistols and giving a toast. Some folds with a chip from the removed wax seal, otherwise very good. Loosely mounted.
