Description:

HENRY L. STIMSON
(1867 - 1950) American politician, Secretary of War under Franklin Roosevelt and advocate of the use of atomic weapons on Japan. Good content T.L.S. as Secretary of War on official letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Mar. 16, 1942 to Clarence Streit (1896–1986), editor of The Ontario and a prominent pro-European Atlanticist and world federalist. In part: "...There is no matter which I have considered more carefully than the Kamchatka route to Russia. That is about all I can say to you on the subject at present...". Very good. The Kamchatka Route would have seen war material shipped from the U.S. to the Russians in the east via the Aleutians to the Kamchatka Peninsula and then across Siberia...a long and tourturous route versus the ocean route adopted by the Murmansk convoys.
