Description:

HENRY JACKSON
(1747 - 1809) Continental Army officer, colonel of Jackson's Additional Continental Regiment, which was redesignated the 16th Massachusetts in 1780. He commanded the last regiment of the Continental Army, the 1st American. Jackson led Continental forces into New York City on the heels of the British evacuation in November, 1783. Fine association A.L.S., 1p.legal folio, [n.p.], Aug. 17, 1806 to his close friend and business associate, Gen. HENRY KNOX. Jackson sends Knox several deeds which he asks to be executed and that certain mills be sold. The letter smacks of wheeling and dealing in land: "...compensate in some measure for the irregular execution of the Mortgage Deed from them to you...the more irregular transfer from you to Mr. Hays and from him to you of the Mortgage...". Integral address leaf attached with binding strip, tiny marginal chip affects a few letters of text, else very good. Knox would die two months later, leaving a bankrupt estate.
