Description:

HENRY FORD
(1863 - 1947) American automobile manufacturer and founder of the Ford Motor Company, his use of the assembly line revolutionized the industry. A terrific, and incredibly ironic item, a pocket book of the sayings of Jesus presented to Ford's top union-buster by Henry Ford, who was one of the country's most virulent anti-Semites! The 3 1/8" x 5 1/2" book bears the gilt title: The Complete Sayings of Jesus and beneath bears the name of the recipient: "HARRY BENNETT". Printed by D. H. Pierpont & Co., Williamsburg, Ma., 1927, it comprises 280pp. and purports to contain all of the printed sayings of Jesus Christ. The book bears a leather cover, worn at the edges and along the spine. The front pastedown bears Ford's presentation signature: "Henry Ford". Overall very good. As Bennett had daily access to Ford, he certainly didn't present this volume for Ford's signature but was undoubtedly presented it by his boss. HARRY BENNETT was an executive at Ford during the 1930s and 1940's. He is best known as the head of Ford's Service Department, or Internal Security, and his reputation of doing Henry Ford's "dirty work" is indisputable. While working for Ford, Bennett's union busting tactics, of which the brutal Battle of the Overpass was a prime example, made him a foe of the United Auto Workers. Of course, Ford was no saint, either - his Dearborn Independent was a fountain of anti-Semitic articles which made him a hero to Adolf Hitler.
