HENRY DEARBORN
(1751 - 1829) American military officer and Secretary of War, fought at Bunker Hill, in Arnold's Quebec expedition, at Wyoming Valley, and, in the War of 1812, took Fort George and York with heavy losses. A.L.S. 2pp. 4to., Roxbury, Feb. 23, 1827, to Adj. General, Col. Robert Jones, in part: "...If Congress pass the proposed Law for augmenting and new organizing the Corps of Engineers Capt. G. Dearborn wishes to be transferred to that Corps; he now acts under the commission of a Capt. of Artillery...his correct habits and sound intellect, would gratify him for a Majority in any Corps...any aid you can with propriety afford him will be esteemed by him and by me as a particular favour...". He adds in an initialed postscript: "I have written to the Secretary of War on the foregoing subject". Toned spots, largely at margins, else very good.
