Description:

HELEN KELLER(1880 - 1968) American author who overcame her lack of sight, speech and hearing to write inspirational accounts of her life. Fine T.L.S. "Helen Keller" in her customary pencil, 1p., 8vo., Palm Beach, Feb. 23, 1938, in part: "...Although my heart is full of faith, yet the lamp of hope by which I walk will flicker at times. Therefore I am appealing to you...to help me move the forces of good-will, so that they may bear unhappy, thwarted blind men and women to lives of purpose and accomplishment...Trusting that the pressing need of my blind fellows may dispose you to excuse this importunate plea, I am, with all good wishes for you own happiness...". The majority of Keller's later correspondence soliciting contributions bear secretarial or printed signatures. A nice example.
