Description:

WOLF-HEINRICH GRAF VON HELLDORFF (1896 – 15 August 1944) German police official and politician, served as a member of the Reichstag for the Nazi Party from 1933, and as Ordnungspolizei Chief of Police in Berlin. From 1938, he was associated with the anti-Nazi resistance and participated in the July 20 bomb plot on Hitler's life. His planned role was to keep the police from interfering with the military takeover, and then to aid the new government. So enraged was Hitler at Helldorff's participation in the plot that he insisted Helldorff be forced to watch his fellow conspirators being hanged before his own execution. An excellent association grouping, a lot of three photographs of von Helldorff from the studio of HEINRICH HOFFMANN, personal photographer to Hitler and the top officers and administrators of the Third Reich. Included in the grouping is: a 5 x 7 in. glass plate negative showing von Helldorff in S.A. uniform from the chest, up; a 5 x 7 in. glossy photo print with Hoffmann ink stamp taken from the plate; a 2.5 x 2.5 in. acetate negative of the same image; and the original studio negative sleeve identifying von Hellsdorff, stamped 'BLOCKED' thus indicating that the photo was not to be reproduced...for obvious reasons. All remain in very good to fine condition.
