Description:

HEINRICH HIMMLER
(1900 - 1945) Hitler's Chief of the Gestapo placed in charge of security and responsible for the construction and operation of extermination camps. He chose suicide rather than face a hangman's noose at Nuremberg. TABLE SAYINGS FOR A 'NATIONAL SOCIALIST HOUSE' Excellent association T.L.S. on his Reichsfuhrer-SS letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Dec. 22, 1938 to Trude Mohr Burkner (1902-1989), the first Reichs Secretary of the Bund Deutscher Madel (BDM). In part: '...Thank you very much for your lines of 15.12.1938 and the booklet 'Vom Heiligen Brot' ['From the Holy Bread'] which I read yesterday. I think some of Stammler's sayings are really good and useful. Of the other poets listed in it, I have found almost no sayings which I believe could really be introduced as table sayings, because they are partly too high and others are partly too difficult in language. I think it is very commendable that you have approached this very difficult question...' Marginal file holes, else fine. Burkner had married and become pregnant the year prior, and had resigned her position in 1937. She edited this collection of table readings, full title: 'From holy bread. Table sayings for the National Socialist house', in 1938. The 'Stammler' referred to was likely Karl Stammler (1856–1938), an influential German philosopher of law.
