Description:

HEINRICH HIMMLER
(1900 - 1945) Hitler's Chief of the Gestapo placed in charge of security and responsible for the construction and operation of extermination camps. He chose suicide rather than face a hangman's noose at Nuremburg. A BOOK PRESENTED TO THE FIRST COMMANDANT OF TREBLINKA Horrific association signed book presented to IMFRIED EBERL (1910-1948), a 'physician' and mass murderer. The book is 'Unbekanntes Tibet' ('Unknown Tibet') by Ernst Schafer (Berlin: Verlag Paul Paren), 1933. 296pp. 8vo., in beige cloth with brown titles, spine slightly sunned. Himmler warmly inscribes the front flyleaf in brown ink: 'Pg. [Party Member] Eberl with the best Yule wishes from [our] home to [your] home 21.XII.38 H. Himmler'. IMFRIED EBERL was a particularly evil member of Himmler's circle of friends. He was an Austrian psychiatrist and medical director of the euthanasia killing facilities at Brandenburg and Bernburg, where he was an eager promoter of the T-4 Euthanasia program. Despite not being formally ordered to take part, psychiatrists such as Eberl were at the center of each stage of justifying, planning and carrying out the mass murder of those with mental disorders. Eberl was then transferred to Chelmno extermination camp for a brief stint, and, on 11 July 1942, to the command of Treblinka as part of Operation Reinhard. An SS man at the camp testified: 'He was very ambitious. It was said that he ordered more transports than could be 'processed' in the camp. That meant that trains had to wait outside the camp because the occupants of the previous transport had not yet all been killed. At the time it was very hot and as a result of the long wait inside the transport trains in the intense heat many people died...'. Eberl was dismissed from Treblinka on 26 August 1942, for incompetence in disposing of the bodies of the thousands of people who had been killed. After the war ended, Eberl continued to practice medicine in Blaubeuren. He was arrested in January 1948 and hanged himself the following month to avoid certain execution. Himmler's choice in books was not accidental: earlier the same year, he had sent a five-member team to Tibet to search for the origins of the supposed Aryan race. Hitler believed that 'Aryan' Nordic people had entered India from the north some 1,500 years earlier, and that the Aryans had committed the 'crime' of mixing with the local 'un-Aryan' people, losing the attributes that had made them racially superior to all other people on earth. Himmler and the Nazi's lunatic theories led them to believe that the original Aryans had fled an 'Atlantis-like' city, possibly to the safety of remote Tibet. A terrifying and absolutely insane association piece.
