Description:

HEINRICH HIMMLER
(1900 - 1945) Hitler's Chief of the Gestapo placed in charge of security and responsible for the construction and operation of extermination camps. He chose suicide rather than face a hangman's noose at Nuremberg. Presentation signed book, "The Cultural Revolution; The Threat of Subhumans" by American author Lothrop Stoddard (Munich: J. F. Lehmanns Verlag) 1925. 212pp. 8vo., brown cloth with black title. On the front flyleaf Himmler presents the volume to FRANZ RITTER VON EPP, dating the inscription Oct. 16, 1933 in Munich and signing with title as Reichsfuhrer-SS. Von Epp's bookplate is on the facing pastedown. Franz Ritter von Epp (1868-1947) was a prominent Nazi politician and general, Governor of Bavaria and Reichsleiter of the NSDAP. He died in an internment camp. Lothrop Stoddard (1883-1950) was an American historian, journalist, racial anthropologist, eugenicist, and political theorist. Stoddard authored over two dozen books, most related to race and civilization, focusing primarily on the dangers posed by "colored" peoples to "white" civilization. Many of his books and articles were racialist, describing what he saw as the peril of immigration. This book was issued in the U.S. as The Revolt Against Civilization (1922), and it put forward the theory that civilization places a growing burden on individuals, leading to a growing underclass of individuals who cannot keep up and a 'ground-swell of revolt'.
