Description:

(1900 - 1945) Hitler's Chief of the Gestapo placed in charge of security and responsible for the construction and operation of extermination camps. He chose suicide rather than face a hangman's noose at Nuremberg. Great partly-printed D.S. on Reichsfuhrer-SS letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Apr. 28, 1938, an appointment document of a member of Himmler's staff, SS-Untersturmfuhrer JOHANN BERGMULLER, 'SS-Nr. 249 997', to the rank of Obersturmfuhrer as of April 20, 1938. Johann Bergmuller was appointed to the Reich Security Service, the SS division charged with the personal protection of Adolf Hitler, and appears to have served in this role until war's end. Signed 'H. Himmler' at the conclusion, to which Himmler applies a 'Reichsfuhrer-SS' ink-stamp atop the first few letters. The upper-left bears a blind-embossed seal, bearing the German national eagle and the SS slogan: 'Meine Ehre heisst Treue'. Three light vertical and horizontal folds, one negligible paper clip indent, else fine condition. Sold with a printed card, indicating the document was obtained through Bergmuller's arrest in Berchtesgaden by American troops. Also sold with a b/w photograph of Himmler standing with German General Paulus in Warsaw.
