Description:

HEINRICH HIMMLER'S EYEGLASSES
Pair of eyeglasses attributed to Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler, circular brass frames with bakelite trim at nose bridge, flexible ear pieces, with rather strong lenses, one lens chipped. A paper label has been affixed to the left arm bearing a fountain pen description in a child's hand: "Papa's [illeg., "old"?] glasses". Himmler's daughter, Gudrun Himmler (b. 1929) idolized her father and remains a Nazi sympathizer - we are satisfied that she penned the label attached to the glasses, which apparently remained with her mother's possessions until they came into the hands of our consignor. The glasses, likely an earlier pair discarded in favor of Himmler's favored pince nez, were found among items belonging to Himmler's wife, MARGARETE HIMMLER (1893-1967), sold elsewhere in this sale. They include a custom-painted porcelain brooch depicting Himmler, an embroidered "M" on cardboard, printed announcement of the birth of daughter Gudrun, Aug. 8, 1929, an SS "Schar Franken" letter of congratulations sent on Gudrun's birth, Aug. 14, 1929, and a 8" x 6" x 3" burled wood box which contained these items. Images of these items are included in the lot.
