Description:

HEINRICH HIMMLER ENGRAVED STERLING FLATWARE
Lot of two pieces of Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler's sterling silver formal silverware, includes a four-tined fork, 8 1/2" long and 8 1/4" soup spoon, each engraved with stylistic initials "H H", the design bearing ribs extending to a wreath of leaves at the end of each implement. Each bears the hallmark "V.S.F. 90", likely Vereinigte Silberwarenfabriken of Dusseldorf. Accompanied by a 1983 signed letter of provenance from Cpl. Thomas Moore, a veteran of the 1st Battalion, 141st U.S. Infantry. Moore mentions fighting the SS in the area of Bad Tolz, site of Himmler's summer home. Although told not to take anything, particularly art: "...We of course did not listen...some of the guys heard about VE Day on Himmler's own radio...". Moore describes the spoon and fork, stating that he removed them from Himmler's home and has possessed them since 1945. Heavy tarnish, else very good. Himmler's silver is very rare.
