Description:

HEINRICH HIMMLER
(1900 - 1945) Hitler's Chief of the Gestapo placed in charge of security and responsible for the construction and operation of extermination camps. He chose suicide rather than face a hangman's noose at Nuremburg. T.L.S. "H. Himmler" on his "Reichsfuhrer-SS" letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Sep. 6, 1938. Himmler writes to SS-Division Totenkopf commander THEODOR EICKE (1892-1943), asking him to provide suggestions for SS recruiting materials. In part: "...I am aware of the love and passion that you brought to and invested in the organization of the SS Guard Units and respectively in the inspection of the concentration camps and am therefore willing to consider any suggestions you may have..." Boldly signed in blue ink at the conclusion, also endorsed by Eicke with his initial "E." at the top. Affixed to this sheet is an unsigned typed letter from ALFRED JODL, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Sep. 2, 1938, to Himmler and the Chief of German Police, suggesting a number of recruiting methods of his own for the Wehrmacht, in part: "... Make available leaflets focused on joining the German Wehrmacht and place similar posters on the barracks' doors...make all soldiers who withdraw from the Wehrmacht after the fulfillment of their active official duty aware of opportunities and terms for joining the SS three months before their withdrawal...All registrations to joining the Wehrmacht must be recorded in writing by the respective Registration Office...All applicants will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves personally to SS-Division Totenkopf upon request by the Registration Office..."He concludes by requesting a draft of the aforementioned leaflets and posters. Both pieces bear file holes at the left margin, else very good.
