Description:

HEINRICH HIMMLER
(1900 - 1945) Hitler's Chief of the Gestapo placed in charge of security and responsible for the construction and operation of extermination camps. He chose suicide rather than face a hangman's noose at Nuremburg. Five lines of holograph corrections in his ubiquitous green indelible pencil written at the bottom of a promotion on "Der Fuhrer" letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Oct. 8, 1934. Untranslated, but refers to the promotion of the notorious Udo von Woyrsch to SS-Obergruppenfuhrer, at the time the second highest rank in the SS. File holes at left, some marginal wear, else very good. Certainly worthy of translation: Udo Gustav Wilhelm Egon von Woyrsch (1895-1983) was charged by Himmler with organizing the SS in Silesia. He was the SS and Police Leader in Elbe, and in 1934 participated in the Night of the Long Knives, ordering the execution of his SS rival Emil Sembach. Von Woyrsch soon developed a close friendship with Himmler and Reinhard Heydrich, and was on Himmler's personal staff and gained the trust of both. In September 1939 he was placed in command of the Einsatzgruppen ("Special Purpose Operational Group") specifically charged with, and adept at, terrorizing and murdering the Jewish population of Poland.
