Description:

HEINRICH EBERBACH
(1885 - 1992) German panzer general and Knights Cross with Oak Leaves recipient, led panzer regiments in Poland and France, and headed the 4th Panzer Div. in Russia. In Normandy he resisted the landings at Juno and Sword, later seeing his forces destroyed in the Falaise Pocket. Great content A.L.S. in English on his personal letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Notzingen, 1969 on his most significant event of the war. In part: '...it was the moment we had to retire from Kashira, 60 km.in the south of Moscow...all efforts to overcome communist Russia had been in vain. Besides we had -40 Celsius and saw the fortune of Napoleon's armies over it. A second shock was Stalingrad where I have been wounded. The Invasion had been expected...And then we all knew that war had been lost. However we thought that resistance might procure us a better armistice...At best if we succeeded with Rommel to take Hitler a prisoner and give him a trial...' Folds, else fine.
