Description:

HARRY S. TRUMAN
(1884-1972) Thirty-third President of the United States who led the country in the closing days of World War II and through the re-building of Europe under the Marshall Plan and the Korean War. Scarce A.L.S. "Harry", 1p. 4to. on his personal letterhead, Fort Riley, Kan., July 16, 1936 thanking the recipient "for the pictures. I gave some to [future Secretary of the Treasury] John Snyder and to Col. Mayo. Shall give Henningle some today. You had poor subjects to work on...Wish I could visit you but I can't. It's too far and I've played hookey long enough...". Below Truman's signature, JOHN W. SNYDER (1895 - 1985) pens a short A.N.S. as a postscript: "We certainly do appreciate the picture gallery - J Snyder". Snyder and Truman were close friends serving the First World War together. Snyder served as Truman's Treasury Secretary from 1946 to 1953. A few very light foxed spots, else fine condition.
