HARRY S. TRUMAN
(1884-1972) 33rd President of the United States who led the country in the closing days of World War II and through the re-building of Europe under the Marshall Plan and the Korean War. Scarce T.L.S. as Senator, 1p. 4to. on Senate Committee on Interstate Commerce letterhead, Washington, Mar. 24, 1942 to W. C. McGrath of St. Louis concerning a potential political appointment: "I appreciate very much your letter of the Tenth, regarding Mr. Robert Hannegan. I like Mr. Hannegan, I think he is a capable lawyer, and I am very sure he will make a good Collector of Internal Revenue". Robert E. Hannegan (1903 - 1949) served as Commissioner of Internal Revenue from 1943 to 1945 subsequently filling the office of Postmaster General (1945 - 1947). With the original transmittal envelope. Usual folds, else very good.
