HARRY S. TRUMAN
(1884 - 1972) 33rd President of the United States who led the country in the closing days of World War II and through the re-building of Europe under the Marshall Plan and the Korean War. Scarce partly-printed D.S. 1p. folio, Washington, Mar. 2, 1948, an appointment of Harvey Jones Gunderson of South Dakota as "...Member of the Board of Directors of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation for a term of two years from January 22, 1948...". Co-signed by Secretary of State GEORGE MARSHALL. Matted and set into a fine wood frame, fine condition. During the Depression, the Reconstruction Finance Corporation gave $2 billion in aid to state and local governments and made loans to banks, railroads, farm mortgage associations, and other businesses. The loans were nearly all repaid. It was continued by the New Deal and under Truman's administration.
