Description:

HAROLD ICKES
(1874 - 1952) Secretary of the Interior and responsible for implementing F.D.R.'s "New Deal". Fine political content T.L.S. on his letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Washington, Jan. 16, 1948 to Harry Bernard in Chicago. In part: "...I agree with you fully in your estimation of Truman...Unfortunately...the place holders and the place hunters control the party organization. I do not believe that Justice Douglas should run for Vice President with Truman...nothing short of a revulsion of nature would make it possible to nominate Douglas himself. The recent movement in New Hampshire in support of General Eisenhower was in the democratic tradition...". Docketed at bottom, else very good.
