Description:

HANS FRANK
(1900 - 1946) Nazi occupational Governor of Poland partly responsible for the genocide perpetrated there. HANS FRANK DEMANDS ALL EVIDENCE TO BE USED AGAINST HIM AT NUREMBERG Partly-printed D.S. 'Dr. Frank', 1p. legal folio, Nuremberg, Nov. 16, 1945, a submission to the International Military Tribunal: 'Defendant's Application for Document' for use in Frank's defense. Just four days before the opening of the Nuremberg Trials, Frank requests: '...All minutes taken during my hearing (in German language) also all recordings and depositions made so far by witnesses to the extent that they are relevant to charges against me...and all documentary evidence which the prosecuting authorities use as charges [sic] against me...' He claims that this vast amount of information, the entire body of evidence accumulated against him to date, will be used to: '...permit [me] to decide whether and to what extent further applications for evidence will be made. The same holds true for documentary evidence which should at least be numbered...' with the intent of: 'Refutation of counts Ic, 3 and 4'. Boldly signed at the bottom by Frank, and additionally signed and stamped by his defense attorney, ALFRED SEIDL (1911-1993). Mounted, along with the official Tribunal translation (also mounted). Two pieces. Very good. Fascinating to note that Frank's attorney requested this information on the very eve of the trial of his client. This document originates from the files of Hans Werner, Director of Printing for the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. It was his task to publish the 42-volume record of the trial using this document and scores of others. Following completion of his task, Werner was permitted to retain possession of the documents, which were never tagged as evidence. They were then sold by autograph expert Charles Hamilton in his auctions, in 1979.
