HANS FRANK
(1900–1946) German lawyer emplyed by the Nazi Party in the 1920s and 1930s, and later Hitler's personal lawyer. After the invasion of Poland, Frank became Nazi Germany's chief jurist in occupied Poland. During his tenure throughout the war, he terrorized civilians and was directly involved in the mass murder of Jews and Poles. Executed following the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials. Rare A.L.S. "Hans" to his mistress Lilli Groh, 3pp. 4to. on Governor-general letterhead, Krakow Castle, May 3, 1943. Frank sends birthday wishes, reinforcing his love for her with colorful descriptions of her beauty. In part : "... I'm sending you my heartiest birthday wishes…I lay before you thirty years of my life full of love and know, no matter what happens, we are inseparable! May my little gifts give you great pleasure…I see blossoms- flowers- colors- light- around you…God is delighted, that you are – with your everlasting youthfulness...the light in my heart… in the unspeakable horrifying storm of my life and struggle provide me with energy and courage, zest for life and beauty believing in the goodness of this earth and world.---Oh my Lilli That you are – That you are mine! I love you - I love you! …'. Fine condition. With a 4" x 5 3/4" photo showing Hans Frank with Arthur Seyss-Inquart (damaged). Written two years to the day before Frank would be captured at Tegernsee in southern Bavaria. He was manhandled and beaten, walking the gauntlet of American soldiers, and because of that, he tried to cut his own throat; two days later, he lacerated his left arm while attempting to slit his wrists in a second unsuccessful suicide attempt. Groh, whom Frank's wife tried to have executed, lived until 1970.
