651. WADE HAMPTON II A.L.S., 4pp. small 4to., Walnut Ridge, Dec. 12, 1856 bringing his correspondent up to date on plantation affairs. In part: "...I am building a new kitchen, & store room, one on each side of the yard. I wish you could see my Gin House now, it has a finer front than Millwood & when it is complete, it will be finer than the new State House. My saw mill being under way, I will now soon be able to get my place in order, good buildings, & fences &c. If I could be here at the proper time, I would have a firkin of putter put up, for the Exhibition at Columbia, next Autumn..." Signature removed from bottom of letter resulting in the loss of several words of text, light toning, otherwise very good. $75-100
