18. WADE HAMPTON (1752-1835) Colonel in the American Revolution under Thomas Sumter, was cited for meritorious services at Eutaw Springs, also served in the War of 1812. Grandfather of Confederate General of the same name. Scarce A.L.S., 2pp. small 4to., [n.p.] June 16, 1807 with integral address leaf addressed to Richard Singleton. In part: "One of your mares, contrary to Baccuss's confident opinion, has again come in season, and as you have to send again for her, concluded it might be as well to leave another whose colt has been sick, but has recover'd; as it will be along it time to regain its strength before it travels..."
