Description:

(1912 - 1967) American song writer and musician, considered the "Father of American Folk music", best known for his masterpiece, "This Land Is Your Land." A superlative partly-printed D.S. "Woody Guthrie", signed three times, 4pp. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], a "Songwriter's Contract" made between Guthrie and People's Songs, Inc., in which Guthrie sells the rights to his immensely-popular song "Pretty Boy Floyd". The contract, unexecuted, has had the song title filled-in by Guthrie, on the second page he writes his name in block letters, adding his Mermaid Ave., Brooklyn address, and on the third and fourth pages he signs "Woody Guthrie" in bold black ink. Lightly toned, else very good to fine condition. No doubt Guthrie signed this contract in advance of his intention of selling these rights, as no party has signed on behalf of the publisher. "Pretty Boy Floyd" romanticized the famous criminal of the Thirties: "You won't never see no outlaw/Drive a family from their home..."
