(1823 - 1900) Union brigadier general of French origin, he served as an aide to McClellan and later fought at Cross Keys. A.L.S. 2pp. 8vo., New York, July 20, [n.y.], to William Conant Church of the Army and Navy Journal, asking if Church was going to Europe to observe French military activities. In part: "...You know my past military career in Europe, you have my book. I think you need military professional information, and if you want to make an arrangement with me...I'll keep you well informed...I have an English translation of my book. Should it not be good to publish it?...". Folds, a bit fragile with some marginal wear, very good.
