GUGLIELMO MARCONI (1874 - 1937) Italian physicist and inventor of wireless telegraphy. Fine partly-printed D.S. 1p. oblong folio, Rome, Oct. 12, 1934, a telegram in Italian, accomplished and signed by Marconi to "His Excellency Mariano Damelio, President of the Italian Academy for the Progress of Science" in Naples. It reads, in part: "...Grateful to your Excellency and Italian scientists for the kind, flattering telegram, but extremely sorry to not be able to be present at the very important meeting...". Beautifully presented in brick matting with a handsome portrait of the great inventor, and set into a wood and gilt frame. Very good condition, ideal for display.
