Description:

GUEST BOOK SIGNED BY HEINRICH HIMMLER, HERMANN FEGELEIN, AND OTHER SS NOTABLES
Extravagant vellum-covered guest book ("Gastebuch") from an unidentified inn or hunting lodge, hand-bound high quality paper with handmade endpapers, contained thirteen pages of ink signatures of guests and visitors. The first page bears a pencil sketch of a skull and crossbones and the expression: "Horrido!", a hunting and battle cry commonly used in Germany by hunters, mountaineers, mountain troops, etc. This may have been the volume's title page, never completed. The next page bears a watercolor scene and title: "The Evening after the 2nd Hunt"There follows thirteen pages of signatures of visitors to this unknown lodge from 1940 to 1943, including: HEINRICH HIMMLER (signing on April 17, 1942), HERMANN FEGELEIN, FRANZ GURTNER (Minister of Justice), MAXIMILLIAN VON HERFF, as well as four Japanese Embassy officials. There is a cavalry connection between some of the signatures, as there is occasional mention of cavalry or horses in some places. One visitor writes: "If I say goodbye my last thoughts will be of the cavalry. Only there is my heart, only there is happiness on earth. On the back of horses, health of body - and hearts of women!...". Above that inscription, another has written: "Aviators and the SS are both weapons, in spirit they are the same...". Many of those who signed this volume are not identified by us, but a large percentage have added their rank and title, including members of the SS, SA, 4th Army, SIPO members, etc. Fine condition, and certainly worthy of further research.
