GROVER CLEVELAND GRANTS AMNESTY TO REFORMED MORMONS Scarce printed proclamation, 1p. 8" x 13", Washington, Sep. 25, 1894, signed in type by President Grover Cleveland and Secretary of State Walter Q. Gresham, being Cleveland's proclamation granting amnesty and pardon to those previously persecuted by the federal government under laws passed twelve years earlier. In part: "...I am satisfied that the members and adherents of said Church generally abstain from plural marriages and polygamous cohabitation and are now living in obedience to the laws...[I] do hereby declare and grant a full amnesty and pardon to all persons who have in violation of said acts committed either of the offenses of polygamy, bigamy, adultery or unlawful cohabitation ...[and] are now suffering deprivation of civil rights...".
