Produced by the U.S. Army as a ground-to-ground or ground-to-air signaling device staring in 1942, and was designed for a target or landing zone marking device, or a screening device for unit maneuvering. The design has remained unchanged since it's inception, and it has been the primary colored smoke grenade used by the U.S. Armed Forces since World War II. During the Vietnam War, the M18 was mainly used by troops for signaling to helicopters and other aircraft although deemed ineffective in areas of a high concentration of water or overly humid conditions. Excellent examples of this common, yet indispensable combat military aide. Good for reenacting.
