Description:

Rare partly-printed D.S., 24pp. 8vo., a 'soldbuch' issued to Panzer Obergefreiter Rudolf Kalous on Dec. 12, 1941. The document lists his service number as '2160' and states that he was attached to the Second Panzer Ersatz battalion in Neuruppin. Interestingly, one month before the issue of this document, huge losses in the Battle of Moscow caused the Rifle Battalion Grossdeutschland to be disbanded, and two battalions were formed as new Grossdeutschland Regiment out of reinforcements arriving from Neuruppin. Thus, Kalous was likely one of the original members of a newly-reformed 'Grossdeutchland' division. He stayed within the ranks of the Grossdeutchland division until at least Dec. 1, 1943, in which he served in the Third Battalion and saw heavy fighting around Karachev. On January 1, 1945, Kalous was promoted to Obergefreiter, and his overall service seems to have ended on Mar, 2, 1945, as that is the last date mentioned throughout. The awards section indicates he was awarded the Panzer Badge in Silver in October 1933, while serving in the Panzer-Abteilung 302. As with many soldbuchs, Kolonz's identity photo does not appear here. Spine notably damaged towards the interior pages with a few pages disbound, just good condition.
