885. WILLIAM GROPPER (1897 - 1977) American social realist painter and satirist, an active supporter of WPA art projects supporting economically-distressed artists. Excellent original signed drawing, a full-length profile in ink of a sharp-nosed man, boldly executed, inscribed and signed in blank ink to Leonard Lyons, the internationally recognized and influential columnist: "To Leonard Lyons, Wish I had a real book to dedicate to a swell guy - With best wishes - Bill Gropper 12/27/62". The drawing appears on the first page of a 22pp. illustrated exhibition catalogue of Gropper's work at the ACA gallery in New York City, ca. 1962. Very good condition. $300 - 400
