48. ULYSSES S. GRANT (1822-1885) Eighteenth President of the United States and Union lieutenant general. Excellent oversize S.P. "U.S. Grant Lt. Gen. U.S.A.", 10 3/4" x 12" b/w, an image of Grant in uniform from the waist, up with one hand in his vest, a Lincoln mourning band tied to his left arm, signed at bottom. On the verso is a presentation inscription signed by Grant's fellow general DANIEL BUTTERFIELD reading: "Wm. Wood Esq. He also helped design the corps badges for the army and is credited with writing "Taps". $5,000-6,000
