GOUVERNEUR MORRIS
(1752 - 1816) American revolutionary, member of the Continental Congress and Constitutional Convention, signer of the Constitution and creator of the terms dollar and cent. A.L.S. 2pp. 4to., Morrisania, Feb. 24, 1812 to New York Surveyor general Simeon Dewitt. Morris resists taking "jaunts" owing to: "...the River and Roads be ever so bad...". He further suggests that papers be signed in absentiaand filed in Albany so that only one person need make the journey. Morris also suggests the surveyor title his maps as he sees fit, provided that they comply with wording provided for in a particular act. Integral address leaf has been partially inlaid, else very good to fine.
