Description:

GOLDEN NAZI PARTY BADGE OWNED BY FRITZ WACHTLER
FRITZ WACHTLER (1891-1945) Nazi Gauleiter of Bayreuth. Trained as a primary school teacher, he also became head of the National Socialist Teachers League (NSLB) in 1935. During World War II he held the honorary rank of SS-Obergruppenfuhrer and was the Reich Defense Commissioner of Gau Bayreuth. He rigorously put increasingly draconian new laws into effect, above all those aimed at Jews and the churches, and as an outsider he made enemies in the area. Wachtler was also involved in organizing the anti-Jewish Kristallnacht riots of 9–10 November 1938 in his Gau. Prone to alcoholic outbursts and unpopular with the local residents, he eventually ran afoul of Martin Bormann and was executed for treason on 19 April 1945. Large format Nazi Party Golden Party Badge issued to Fritz Wachtler. Constructed of gilded tombak with multi-colored enamels, 1.18 in. diameter, the obverse consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, surrounding a white enameled disc, overlaid by a central black enameled mobile swastika, surrounded by a red enameled ring bearing a gilt inscription: 'NATIONAL-SOZIALISTISCHE D.A.P.' ('NATIONAL SOCIALIST GERMAN WORKERS' PARTY'). The reverse reverse bears a period replacement pin and catch expertly soldered thereto as is ofttimes seen, with 'GES. GESCH.' and Wachtler's party number 35313 engraved above and below the pin. Most likely manufactured by Deschler. Enamel is intact though bearing some surface scratches, gilding a bit worn, overall very good.
