Excessively rare, fine association war-date A.L.S., 1p. 4to., "Hd. Qrs. Land Defenses", Charleston, Apr. 2, 1863 to South Carolina Gov. FRANCIS W. PICKENS concerning regimental elections. In part: "...Allow me to suggest that you recommend to the Legislature to rescind their action in relation to the Elections in certain Corps[?] Regts. from this State. No one is better aware of the in-operativeness of the Law, and the pernicious effects of an attempt to execute its provisions than yourself...". Verso bears an eight line endorsement by Pickens as well. Slightly toned at top and bottom, else very good.        $2,000 - 3,000
