402. GETTYSBURG CAMPAIGN A good war-date Union officer's letter, 3pp. 8vo., in pencil by Capt. Jacob S. Winans, Co. H, 38th Penn. Vols., "Bivouac near Frederick, June 28, [1863]", concerning being on the move during the Gettysburg campaign. In part: "...We are camped amongst the 5th Corps (Meade's Corps) but I do not know whether we have been assigned to it or not. Gen'l Meade is in command of the Army of the Potomac, Hooker has been removed. It is thought that McClellan will be in command in a few days...it is reported that Lee is recrossing the Potomac and is moving on Washington...". With original transmittal cover. Winans served throughout the war in the 38th and fought in the battles of Gaines Mills, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. Very good. $100-150
