915. GEORGE GERSHWIN (1898 - 1937) American composer and songwriter in collaboration with his brother Ira, his works include "Porgy and Bess", "Rhapsody in Blue", and "An American in Paris". Excellent I.S.P. with A.M.Q., 8" x 10" b/w, a chest, up portrait of the great pianist and composer boldly inscribed at bottom "For Patricia Leftwich - with every good wish - George Gershwin Dec. 1932". At lower left Gershwin adds two bars from his immortal "Rhapsody in Blue", and labels the quote as such. A 1 2/2" surface scratch from the top center, down could be easily retouched, and a wrinkle at bottom right is original to the photo, else very good condition and perfect for display. $4,000 - 5,000
