Good lot of four signed items from German submarine commanders, includes: MAX VALENTINER (1883-1949) The third highest-scoring U-boat commander of the war, and was awarded the Pour le Merite for his achievements. Cryptic A.N.S. in German on the verso of a postcard, 1p. 12mo., Berlin. June 21, 1931, sending the message: 'The misplaced opportunity never returns!' He signs at the conclusion, adding rank and the U-boats he commanded. WITH: ERNST HASHAGAN (1885-1947) German U-boat captain, responsible for sinking 55 ships with a tonnage of over 130,000 GRT. I.S.P., 3.5 x 5.5 in. image size, 8 x 11.5 in. mount size, a waist-up portrait in uniform, signing with rank diagonally on the lower-portion of the mount, with some of the signature stretching across the image. Hashagen also adds an untranslated quote in German. Scattered spots of foxing. WITH: HANS ROSE (1885-1969) one of the most successful and highly decorated German U-boat commander in the Kaiserliche Marine, sinking 79 ships for a total of 213,987 GRT. A.N.S. in German on the verso of a postcard, 1p. 12mo., Essen, April 18, 1932. Untranslated. He signs at the conclusion, adding rank. Sold with an A.L.S. from RICHARD PLUM (b. 1889), who sunk only one ship, 2pp. 12mo., Cologne, April 8, 1933, written in German on the front-and-back of a postcard. Untranslated. Plum signs and adds his rank next to his affixed portrait. Very good condition unless previously noted.

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments.
