Description:

Lot of 40 soldiers' letters from several German soldiers during World War II. Nine of the letters are from Gefr. Eligius Kramer in the Ukraine and Flak Sgt. Theodor Kopf in the Ruhr, 1942-45, with translations, with a good amount of defeatist content that would have gotten them arrested at the very least. In part: ""...we had no evening meal today, nothing at all...as for bombing alerts, it is bad here, a week ago we had a heavy raid on the Yard, 150 dead and 400 injured...we heard the enemy bombed Nurnberg and Munich again...thank God that you do not suffer the same as the people do here inthe Ruhr...the food here is not good...you can go into the forest to pick berries, it helps in times of need...our whole regiment was destroyed in Russia...some companies were down to a few men...the was was a stubling block for us...We look for help to the West, what will England and America do? The Russian steamroller cannot be stopped..."" Also present is a group of 31 letters and envelopes sent by Obergefr. Leo Pischel to his girlfriend, Elfriede Oehme in Oberlungwitz (Saxony), 1943-44. These letters are not translated, but were all sent via Feldpost. Most originate from Feldpost 13404, Regimentsstab Grenadier-Regiment 941. The 941.Grenadier Regiment was established on December 1, 1943 in Brittany for the 353rd Infantry Division. After the Allies landed, the regiment moved there in June. In August 1944, it joined the German retreat to the west, with heavy losses. From October 1944 the regiment stood in the Trier area. In 1945 the regiment fought in the Düren area and in April 1 945 on the Rhine and Ruhr.
