Description:

GERMAN SOLDIER'S HAND-PAINTED LETTERS FROM THE FRONT
Excellent grouping of approx 25 letters from German radio man Eugen Trauth to (presumably) his girlfriend in Westmark, especially notable for the fact that the grouping includes 19 large watercolor and pencil drawings, quite well-executed, which Trauth added to or included with his missives. The letters total about 50-60pp. 8vo., all written from about mid-1944 to very early in 1945. From the drawings' subjects and Feldpost addresses, Trauth was serving with a headquarters and intelligence unit, at first probably about Leningrad (where most of these drawings were probably undertaken) and then on the retreat to Germany. Images include soldiers at railheads and in camp, armed soldiers pulled by on a sled by horses, a protected riverside and train crossing, Orthodox church, and many pastoral, country scenes and images of various homes and farms. Letters have not been carefully read for content. Overall very good.
