Description:

GERMAN SOLDIER IS SHOT FOR DESERTION
A pair of war-date documents illustrating the brutal efficiency of the German Army's treatment of deserters, the first a signed carbon, 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Dec. 11, 1939 from a officer relaying a request from the mother of deserter Franz Losert for clemency for her son, or at least a delay in his execution as an appeal had apparently not yet reached the region's gauleiter. The second document, on Reichchancellory letterehead, 1p. 8vo., Berlin, Jan. 25, 1940 indicated that the German High Command had advised that Losert's death sentence had been carried out on Dec. 21. File holes, else very good.
