Description:

GERMAN S.A. DRESS DAGGER BY GUSTAV SPITZER
German S.A. dress dagger by Gustav C. Spitzer, Solingen. A nice bring back by World War II vet Edward T. Elko. This dagger bearing a pommel nut showing no signs of tampering, and a brown wood grip with perfectly inset eagle and S.A. button, the eagle perfect, the button's finish a bit mottled. The wood grip itself is completely free of cracks or indeed any significant damage or defects. Upper and lower cross guards are very good, showing good detail but plating oxidized in places. The lower cross guard is unmarked. The blade is well-marked by the maker, and the ‘Alles fur Deutschland' motto still retains virtually all of its original shading. The blade is beautiful with strong cross-graining and comes to a fine point, showing only minimal running marks. The painted scabbard is likewise excellent, the paint near perfect, and showing no dents or dings, including the ball at the bottom of the scabbard. With leather hanger RZM-marked on both the buckle and the leather, dated 1941. A very scarce maker.
