Description:

GERMAN RED CROSS HEWER
Deutsche Rotes Kreuz (German Red Cross) Hewer. This service hewer is 15.75 in. overall length with a 10.5 in. blade, both grips flawless showing no chips or cracks, a black checkered Bakelite grip on the obverse with the typical smooth grip on the reverse, held in place by the original brass finished fixing screws. The cross guard remains firm, and features the DRK (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz) emblem, slightly tarnished, but showing no damage or severe wear. Leather buffer washer is in place and in fine condition with most of its original black finish in place. This blade, in its original issue condition with saw-back and muted tip design, is generally in fine condition with great untouched cross graining throughout, however the blade does show some dark spotting towards the center of blade at the transition from grind to fuller, and near the tip. The reverse of the blade ricasso is marked 'Ges. Geschutzt' behind the cross guard extension. The scabbard is constructed of black-painted steel with nickel fittings and is free of dents, its only flaw being a slightly loose frog securing fitting. Fine.
