Description:

GERMAN POLICE PARADE BAYONET BY COPPEL
German Police parade bayonet by Alexander Coppel, Solingen, 13 in. blade, 17.5 in. overall. Beautifully detailed hilt with stag horn grip attached by two rivets and an eagle head pommel. Police insignia is attached to the center of the grip, the top part of the wreath not present. The blade is etched with three maker's marks from Coppel, all on the ricasso. The blade is lightly tarnished with some oxidization, otherwise very good. The scabbard, likely not original to the bayonet, bears a unit stamp which reads ‘S Wpr. II 141'. It fits poorly, one screw missing and the numbers do not match. The Alexander Coppel company made large amounts of export bayonets during the 19th century, and also manufactured bayonets under the name Alcoso. Sadly, as the Coppel family was Jewish, they saw their company stolen from them and ‘Aryanized' during WWII by the NSDAP. The company still exists, only making products in the animal care sector.
