Description:

GERMAN PHOTO BOOK ON DIVE BOMBERS, OWNED BY AN SS CAPTAIN
Great content photo book: 'Sturzkampfflugzeuge' ('Dive Bomber Aircraft') by H. Brausewaldt (Berlin: Verlag Hermann Hillger), 1941. 128pp., 8 x 10 in. A superbly-illustrated book showings Stukas like the early Junkers K47, the Henschel Hs123 and the Junkers Ju88, with 90% of the focus being on the Junkers Ju87 dive bomber. Various pages bear a 'Feldpost Number L 52440' ink stamp. Uneven toning, some tears on the initial pages, just good condition. Uniquely, this book was once owned by an SS captain. According to our consigner, his father Major William W. Thompson III served in Germany immediately after war's end, and received this book (and numerous other items) in 1949 from the family's German maid, Tilly. Tilly's brother, whose name is regrettably unknown to us, served as an SS captain during World War II, and supposedly led one of the crews charged with setting up and dismantling the Nuremberg Rally grounds. According to our consigner, Tilly herself was told little else about these items, as her brother was sent to war. His fate is now unknown to us. Sold with a letter of provenance from our consigner. Numerous other items from this SS officer, including a hanging banner from a later Nuremberg Rally, is also offered in this sale.
