Description:

GERMAN P.O.W. UNDERGOES 'CHANGE OF SEX'
A fascinating group of three documents related to German prisoner-of-war ALBERT SCHLICHENMAIER, a victim of a car accident which damaged his brain and genitals during World War II, resulting in physical changes making him look increasingly feminine. The lot includes a 2pp. document from a British Military Hospital, revealing his transfer in June 6, 1946, his job as 'soldier', his particulars, and his medical details and history. The document notably details, in part: 'Car accident about 1943 with concussion of brains and fracture of pelvis...married, 1 child (stillbirth)...last intercourse 1944...Since 1945 change in libido, decrease of pollutions and erections...beginning of 1946 complete cessation of sexual feelings and functions...no complaints, did not remark...shows feminine stigmata in expression of face, virginlike breasts...horizontal border of pubic hair region...testicles atrophic, hard, pea-size...' The lot is also sold with an A.L.S. to Major Bieri of the International Red Cross from an unidentified man, 1p. 4to., July 31, 1946, which mentions '...enclosing the case history of the POW who experienced the change of sex. As you say it is indeed an interesting case & could have complications...' Sold with an A.L.S. in French from the International Red Cross to Major Bieri, dated August 16, 1946, discussing '...the tragic case of this prisoner currently under observation...'. Three pieces. An very interesting series of documents!
