Description:

GERMAN OVER-PRINTED MAP OF MINSK
Topographical and road map of the Russian city of Minsk and areas south, 37" x 33", scale 1:100,000, waterproofed for military use with the city and town names over-printed in black making the Cyrillic text legible to the German reader. Our opinion this is a field-used map as it shows multiple folds, creasing, grease marks, etc., all on the verso of the map. The battle of Bialystok–Minsk was a German strategic operation conducted by the Army Group Centre during the opening stage of Operation Barbarossa lasting from 22–29 June 1941. Its goal was encirclement of the Red Army forces around Minsk. Ultimately, all major Russian counter-attacks and break-through attempts failed and the defenders were defeated.
