Description:

GERMAN LETTER FROM HATEFUL GRANDFATHER TO NEPHEW
Handwritten letter from a grandfather to his nephew, 1p. 4to., Minden, Aug. 28, 1940 the nephew serving the German military with a medical unit of the 6th Panzer Division. The letter includes some anti-Semitic remarks including ‘Good, again a Jew less!' and mentions his disdain for communism, especially when he himself served in 1914. Translation in part: ‘…In 1914 and 1915, too, I was always very relieved and happy when I was able to embrace your grandmother safely. The war was very tough then and I hope that this war comes to a quick end. It did not change that much at that time, because at the time our material was also very good and our soldiers were the bravest on all battlefields. It is amazing to me that the story has repeated so much. As in 1914 we were again drawn into a war, then it was the Communists and today it is the Communist Jew with his evil face. There are still 50 to 60 Jews here, but as usual they are only among themselves and avoid us like the devil. The Lindemeyer, you know, who betrayed your grandmother, they picked him up days ago and I heard that he probably will not come back so fast. Good, again a Jew less...You hear and read in Wehrmacht's report about your successes in the West and that makes you happy, of course. Too bad you did not kill the French off!...' Includes the original stamped envelope, which is opened on the top and left side. The letter has a small split at a center crease, otherwise very good condition.
